A Woman Killed by H5N1 Influenza in China

  The Ministry of Health in China confirmed a new fatal case of human infection with the H5N1 avian influenza virus. The victim is a 44-year-old female from Haifeng county, Shanwei city, Guangdong province.

She developed symptoms on 16 February was hospitalized on 22 February. She died on 25 February and confirmed by the national laboratory on 25 February as H5N1 avian influenza infection. She had contact with sick and dead poultry before her illness. All people with close contact with the victim have been placed under medical observation and all remain healthy till now.

20 out of 30 confirmed cases of China were fatal to date.
